Yang Feiyun's still life of girl in front of canvas oil painting, 1988, 100×80cm "Still Life of Girl in Front of Girl" is Yang Feiyun in the prime of life and newly married. During the Yan Erzhi period, the pinnacle of the series of works created using his childhood sweetheart's wife as a model was deservedly selected as the cover of the 1988 landmark "Oil Painting Body Art Exhibition" album. Historians of this major exhibition have reached a conclusion, but this most focal work disappeared with the wind and never appeared again. Today, this great relic of the pre-market era has appeared, and after a quarter of a century of precipitation, it is even more captivating and memorable like the aging of a fine wine. The appeal of the painting has reached the level of crystallization. The simple and unpretentious image and the dignified and elegant temperament further confirm the aesthetic principle of the sage's saying that "healthy beauty is great beauty".
Chao Ge Overlooking oil painting on canvas, 92.5×72.5cm, made in 1988 <
> attracted special attention from a few experts several years after the 88 Oil Painting Body Art Exhibition. In the 1990s, Freud's painting style had a strong impact on China's "new generation". Chao Ge did not belong to the "new generation" and had established an obvious personal style in the mid-1980s. However, the human body looking down in this painting from the late 1980s has striking similarities with Freud's later works, that is, after the 1990s. This does not refer to the painting style, but to the rich human body and the strange feeling. This is actually a new concept. Chao Ge is an absolute loner among contemporary artists and hardly communicates with others. There are no narrative paintings, focusing only on human figures and portraits, and making delicate observations of life and characters with an almost neurotic vision. These are similar to Freud, but they have never been influenced by Freud. The phenomenon of inverted influence presented in "Looking Down" is the only isolated example in the history of the development of Chinese contemporary art, and is quite thought-provoking.
